Word from the Pastor

This week is Palm Sunday. One amazing thing about this day is that Jesus came to Jerusalem riding on a colt, not just a donkey, but a colt, a child donkey. The crowd wanted Jesus to come in triumphantly to defeat the Romans and usher in His Kingdom. They threw down garments and waved palm branches. We will do something similar this Sunday as our GCI kids will be waving their palm branches. It will be fun!

One thing to note how Jesus, a grown man, entered on a colt, must have looked very odd, and even silly? But this fulfilled the prophecies written about Him in the Book of Zechariah: "Behold, your king is coming to you, humble and mounted on a donkey." Contrast this with how our Lord will come back riding, not on a donkey, but a horse triumphantly to usher in the Kingdom of Heaven.

We live in the Kingdom now, everywhere we walk, every time we talk, as the Holy Spirit leads us. But it’s also the “not yet”, we all look forward to the time when Jesus will return on a horse to take over the world with His Kingdom Rule!

See you this Palm Sunday for worship at 10:30am, followed by coffee in the fireside room.

🎶 All I once held dear 🎶 … Can’t you just hear the song from March for Jesus? I remember doing my first March for Jesus in Toronto, and since I like Rollerblading I thought I would Rollerblade to Queen’s Park and partake in The March. Well, I didn’t figure out that when you “march” you are walking, and walking in rollerblades is not the easiest. LOL. I did sing this song and thoroughly enjoyed the march! As we sang I remember thinking “Knowing You, Jesus… You're my all, You're the best You're my joy, my righteousness, And I love You, Lord”. Very powerful words and truly marching orders for our lives. All that we think is valuable, all our stuff, our possessions, we count it loss for knowing and embracing Jesus and his Kingdom.

This is powerful language and what the Kingdom is all about! It’s about putting on the Spiritual Person, and giving it light and life in our life OVER our Physical Person. As we continue our time in Lent and Easter Preparation, lets reflect on our priorities, our “all”, let’s count it all loss for Him!

See you this Sunday at 10:30am worship followed by lunch afterward.

Our topic this week is about reconciliation. There is a lot packed into this word. And the world would be a much better place if reconciliation was practiced even just a little bit. I remember my dear mom’s comments when my sister and I would fight. “Don’t you know what you are doing when you are arguing with your sister/brother, that’s why we have wars!”. I was like what, we argue that’s normal isn’t it? She was right, the same anger and resentment that goes into the arguments I had with my sister fuels wars. I never forgot that lesson.

So turning our heads to reconciliation, my mom made sure we would “kiss and make up”. We had to reconcile with each other, “we are a family, that’s what families do”. How true. And as christians we too are family, and we too need to reconcile with our neighbours, our kids, our spouses, and our coworkers.

In today’s readings we find the story of the Prodigal Son, and the reconciliation the father had for his son, as he lavishly forgave him and had a great big feast! The older brother didn’t learn the lesson to well, and the father had to explain to him how important it was to welcome his brother back and be reconciled.

See you this Sunday at 10:30am for Worship and refreshments after.
